Term Definition
Inflammation One of the first responses of the immune system to infection. Caused by increased blood flow to the tissue.
Antibody Secreted by white blood cells and used by the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign objects.
Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) A molecule on the surface of cells that mediates the interaction of white blood cells. Plays a key role in mediating immunization.
Leukocytes Cells of the immune system involved in defending the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials.
Natural Killer Cell A type of cytotoxic white blood cell that plays a foundational role in the innate immune response.
